Winston Churchill once said “If Independence is granted to India, power will go to rascals, rogues; all Indian leaders will be of low calibre and men of straw. They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles”. However, since 1951, India has been the largest democracy of the world and every 5 years we exercise our right to choose our leaders, hence it is important that students understand the electoral process.

On May 8, the students of classes IX to XII gathered in the auditorium and the members of the Electoral Literacy Club welcomed them to an informative session about the electoral system in India. The session started with a brief history of the election process followed by its transformation over the years. The members explained the procedure of getting registered as a voter and the significance of exercising your duty as an adult citizen of India. The members of the club were assigned their portfolios and given badges for the same.

The students also attended a session on Cyber Awareness by the Carmel Cyber Club. It was an interactive session, and the students were asked about Cyber safety, digital footprints, Secure websites and Cybercrimes. The students were told about ways to stay safe and not indulge in cyber bullying or trolling. They were given some practical solutions to ensure that they do not fall prey to phishing or trolling. A presentation was shown about how to protect oneself against cybercrime and report one in case it happens.
