The excitement was palpable in the Carmel campus, as the students eagerly awaited the first ever Carmel Premiere League cricket match between the teachers and the support staff. On April 26, 2024, the entire school gathered around the cricket field and waited in anticipation as the players from both the teams walked on to the ground holding the hands of a few lucky preprimary students. The entire school sang the national anthem, after which the toss took place. The teachers won the toss and decided to bat, at this moment Ma’am Lajwanti took the mike and started with her very entertaining commentary. The cheerleader’s squad was led by the school manager Sister Sumita along with Ma’am Preety Jolly, Ma’am Yashoda and Ma’am Indu. The cabinet made sure the music kept going on in the background for extra fun.

As the fielders took their position, the principal Sister Shanta and James Sir came in as the opening batsmen for the teachers’ team. Eric Bhaiya was the wicket keeper and Inderjeet Bhaiya started with the bowling. Sister Shanta showed her cricket prowess as she made some invaluable runs along with James Sir, before getting clean bowled. Then came Ma’am Swati who happens to be a national level cricketer and she showed her excellent batting skills. Meanwhile James Sir kept the spectators entertained with his boundaries. Rahul Sir was the next batsman after James Sir got out and he kept up the pace of fours and sixes as the students jumped in joy. The support staff got a few good wickets but after 12 overs the teachers’ team had made a score of 166 runs, a daunting task for them to complete.

The support staff had a few good batsmen such as Inderjeet Bhaiya who scored a century all on his own. Ram Bhaiya was another good player, but the other batsman kept getting out early and in the end the teachers won the match by 36 runs. From the teachers’ team Ma’am Swati won the best batswoman trophy and Sunil Sir won the best bowler trophy. In the support staff team Inderjeet Bhaiya was awarded the best batsman and Clifford won the best bowler trophy.

It was a unique experience for everyone, and the students were really happy and entertained by this exciting match.
